Microsoft first announced Windows 365, its cloud PC solution for enterprise and business customers, back in 2021. Over the past four years, Windows 365 has evolved into a leading cloud PC platform with new deployment options, deeper Microsoft 365 and Azure integrations, improved performance, and enhanced management capabilities.
At Ignite 2025, Microsoft today announced the new Windows 365 for Agents, a cloud PC solution targeting AI agents that can interact with applications running on Windows and Linux to complete users" tasks. For example, if an AI agent requires access to a legacy line-of-business application that runs only on Windows, it can spin up a Windows 365 for Agents session with a full Windows environment and interact with the application to achieve the task.
The Windows team wrote the following regarding the launch of Windows 365 for Agents:
"Windows 365 for Agents will extend agentic capabilities to the Microsoft Cloud. Agent makers will have a trusted platform with modular UI controls, enterprise-grade security, and flexibility to run on Windows or Linux. That means they will be able to build and deploy agents that open apps, process data, and automate tasks on a Cloud PC."
Through a set of APIs, agent developers can build and deploy agents with Windows 365 for Agents. Agents running in the cloud in Windows 365 can also use agent connectors and Windows on-device registry, which was announced today. Since agents can execute the same way in Windows locally and the cloud through Windows 365, developers can choose between local and cloud execution depending on their need.
Microsoft 365 Copilot"s Researcher Agent with Computer Use is the first solution that uses Windows 365 Cloud PCs running a Linux environment, allowing users to automate website navigation and actions. Manus AI, a leading agentic AI startup, is using non-domain-joined Windows 365 Cloud PCs to perform PowerPoint creation and editing tasks.
Microsoft also highlighted that AI startups including Fellou, Genspark, Simular, and TinyFish are already piloting Windows 365 for Agents. Windows 365 for Agents is now in public preview.
