Microsoft confirms their Gamescom press conference

While there hasn’t been much talk about Microsoft’s presence at Gamescom this year, apparently they plan to be in attendance and hold a press conference. According to N4G via VG247, “Microsoft will be holding a press conference at gamescom next Tuesday, August 17.”

Microsoft sent out invites for the event -- which it is calling Gamescom “play day” as of this morning. However, they hadn’t originally made it clear whether or not they would be a press conference. Apparently, shortly afterward, VG247 spoke with a Microsoft Representative over the phone.

The representative confirmed that there would indeed be a full conference during the event at Gamescom and that they had several announcements to make. At the time of the phone call, Microsoft stated that it wasn’t yet sure what form the conference would take. It could only confirm that the event would take place on the same day as EA and Sony’s conferences.

Nintendo will not have a presence at the show according to VG247. Despite the fact that it isn’t clear what will be announced by Microsoft, the timing could very well be right for the announcement of a European release date for Kinect. Whether or not there will be further North American details for Kinect is uncertain, but it seems unlikely considering the fact that this is a European event.

Gamescom itself will kick off next Monday, August 16, 2010 and it will continue through August 22.
