Microsoft Health apps updated with auto detection of sleep, more insights

Following its announcement last week, Microsoft has released an update for its Microsoft Health platform that provides users with more insights when using a Microsoft Band or other connected fitness device as well as the ability to automatically detect sleep.

Microsoft"s change to sleep tracking, the most prominent change in the update, means users will no longer have to manually enter when they go to sleep via their Microsoft Band, something the company has been working on for months. Additionally, Microsoft is also updating its fitness platform to feature more insights on activity, such as comparing a user to his or her peers based on age and body type. Users can view insights on the Microsoft Health dashboard.

Other minor changes with the update include general bug fixes as well as some cosmetic modifications of the Windows Phone app. Additionally, the Microsoft Health logo was changed from a white silhouette of the Band to a heart made of squares, echoing Microsoft"s tile interface. While minor, the logo change could indicate Microsoft"s desire to incorporate more devices with its fitness platform, such as how the update now allows the Health app to monitor steps with a smartphone.

For users of the Microsoft Health app, the update is now available in the Google Play Store and Windows Phone Store. An update to the iPhone app will likely roll out in the coming hours.
