Microsoft India releases Windows Phone app to prevent crimes against women

Microsoft India has created an exclusive Windows Phone app made specifically for that country that has been designed to help prevent crimes against women. The app is called Guardian and it offers a number of tracking features along with a way to send out an SOS alert.

The Guardian website has the details on the app, which lets users set up a way to track their progress to a specific destination via Bing Maps and Windows Azure-based cloud servers. If someone find themselves in some kind of trouble, a button on the app can be pressed to send out an SOS alert to friends as well as security agencies.

The alert can send out automatic email alerts and even post messages to private Facebook groups. The SOS keeps going even if the smartphone is destroyed. The Guardian app lets users track their friends who freely offer their own travel details to others. It also offers directions and phone numbers to locations such as police and fire stations, hospitals and more.

The NDTV website reports that the app was created by a Microsoft team in their spare time as part of the company"s Garage program, which also has released software such as Mouse Without Borders in the past.
