Microsoft introduces a major update for OneDrive photos experience

Today, at the Copilot + OneDrive digital event, Microsoft introduced a major update to the photos experience in OneDrive.

The new Moments tab in OneDrive delivers curated memories based on the photos stored in your account. The curation includes On This Day content, recent moments, shared memories, and highlights. When you click on a moment in the Moments tab, you’ll be presented with a beautiful slideshow of photos from that particular occasion.

The Photo Shuffle section in the Moments tab is a collection of random photos from your OneDrive that helps users rediscover forgotten favorites. Users can reshuffle them to find new hidden gems. The Moments experience is available on both the OneDrive website and the mobile app.

On the OneDrive iOS and Android apps, Microsoft is also introducing AI-powered photo editing, allowing users to edit their photos with new styles and enhancements. Another useful feature on the OneDrive mobile app, called Photo Stacks, can automatically group blurry or duplicate photos. For Microsoft 365 subscribers, OneDrive will now offer photo cleanup suggestions, helping them keep their photo collection free of blurry or unwanted images.

The new Photos Agent in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app was the main highlight of the event today. This new AI agent in Copilot will allow users to find their photos using natural language. For example, a user can ask the Copilot Photos Agent to present the "best shots from last weekend" and share the displayed photos with others. Basically, Photos Agent will allow you to build instant albums based on user prompts and share them with others.

This new Photos Agent is coming soon to the Microsoft 365 Copilot Windows and Web experience for Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers.

Next year, Microsoft will release a unified OneDrive Photos experience on Windows, featuring several new additions, including a Gallery view, AI-powered slideshows, the ability to view local photos from the PC, and more. The upcoming OneDrive Photos app for Windows was recently leaked, and you can check out our previous coverage of it.
