Microsoft investigates blocked Windows 10 Mobile updates for Lumia 950 and 950 XL

Despite a new update to Windows 10 Mobile being deployed to non-Insiders only a few hours ago, there have been reports that not all Lumia 950 series handsets are able to see it.

According to a thread over on Microsoft Answers, an undetermined percentage of Insiders have not received Build 10586.29 despite others receiving the update on their Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL. Although Microsoft has verified that the update pipeline is in working order, it has yet to uncover the actual root cause of the issue leaving 950 series handsets out in the cold.

Hard resetting affecting handsets does appear to solve the issue but Microsoft is not currently endorsing that as the recommended solution until it determines if an alternate, less destructive fix exists. Of course, if you choose to pursue this route yourself, you should backup your device prior to conducting a hard reset to prevent loss of data. Otherwise, affected handsets will be stranded on Build 10586.0 until the problem is diagnosed and a solution is developed.

As one would hope, the issue has high visibility within the company with "the right engineering folks engaged". However here"s no word on when the issue might actually be resolved.. Help has already been enlisted from some affected Insiders to provide extra update logs via the Field Medic app for further analysis. Hopefully, this will lead to a speedy and non-destructive resolution to the issue for affected Lumia owners.
