Microsoft is still committed to supporting Windows RT

While Windows RT is practically dead with the Surface 2 and Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet discontinued, and other ARM devices sporting a screen size of more than 8-inches not eligible for a full-fledged Windows 10 upgrade, Microsoft has reiterated its continuing support for Windows RT.

Geekwire reports that even though Microsoft has halted the production of Windows RT devices, the company is still working on future updates for the OS. A Microsoft spokesperson stated:

As Terry Myerson shared on stage on January 21, Microsoft is working on an update for Windows RT, and will have more to share later. ARM devices will continue to be a crucial part of the range of devices Windows 10 supports, with an optimized experience for ARM-based phones, phablets and small tablets up to 8 inches.

Of course, it"s highly unlikely that we"ll see a device running Windows RT in the future but nevertheless, its a good thing to see Microsoft"s official stance regarding the issue.

Speaking of which, a large screen ARM device was also spotted in benchmarks a couple of days ago. The device packs in a 10.1-inch display identical to the Nokia Lumia 2520, but the resolution has been upped to 2K. The rumored device is also powered by a Snapdragon 805 with Adreno 420 processor. It will be quite interesting to see how this tablet will be positioned in the market when and if it arrives.
