Microsoft launches public beta for Office 2010 SP2

Microsoft may have quickly and quietly stopped selling Office 2010 soon after the launch of Office 2013 in late January, but the company is still supporting the software suite with patches. Today, Microsoft launched the public beta for Office 2010 Service Pack 2 which includes the public beta for SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 2.

While the download site (Microsoft Account signup required) has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the public beta to download, the site does not go into specifics of what"s been put into this beta. Microsoft"s official release notes say:

This service pack beta includes previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, these fixes include improvements in stability, performance, and security as well as compatibility with Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10. The service pack beta also includes all the public updates and cumulative updates (hotfixes) that have been released since Service Pack 1. A full list of fixes will be available at the time of final release.

This public beta of Service Pack 2 will expire either on December 31st, 2013 or whenever Microsoft decides to release the final version of the service pack for all Office 2010 owners, although it"s more likely that the latter scenario will play itself out. Keep in mind that this is a public beta and as such Microsoft offers no official support for it.
