Microsoft releases Windows 10 build 19041.172 to the Slow ring

Today, Microsoft released Windows 10 Insider Preview build 19041.172 to the Slow ring. Typically, it only gets updates on Patch Tuesday, but this is the second one this month.

It"s an update for Windows 10 version 2004, which has actually been in testing with Insiders for over a year. But as the version number indicates, Microsoft is finally prepping to release it. In fact, this cumulative update only has a single fix:

  • We fixed an issue that prevents the Windows logo key + J keyboard shortcut from giving focus to certain Windows tips.

There"s also one known issue to be aware of:

  • We are aware Narrator and NVDA users that seek the latest release of Microsoft Edge based on Chromium may experience some difficulty when navigating and reading certain web content. Narrator, NVDA and the Edge teams are aware of these issues. Users of legacy Microsoft Edge will not be affected. NVAccess has released a NVDA 2019.3that resolves the known issue with Edge.

The last step before releasing Windows 10 version 2004 to production would be to promote it to the Release Preview ring of the Windows Insider Program. Being that it typically gets monthly updates, one would assume that this should happen any day now if Microsoft is planning to release the feature update on the April Patch Tuesday. If the firm is planning to wait until May, Release Preview users might have to wait for a couple more weeks.
