Microsoft says it will, or won't, rename the Windows 10 Photos app to 'Story Remix'

At Microsoft"s Build 2017 developer conference earlier this year, the company announced the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (FCU). Saying that it wants to build a flagship app to show off the features of the update, it also announced Story Remix, which we later learned would be an update to the Photos app.

But today, Insiders got an update for Photos that actually renamed it to Story Remix, implying that this change will be made for all users once the Windows 10 FCU rolls out. But according to Microsoft"s Brandon LeBlanc, that might not be the case at all:

We are actually testing a few different name choices for the Photos app with #WindowsInsiders. Naming is not yet final ?Give us feedback! https://t.co/xVLbLN3L9F

So, in a couple of months, the app might be called Photos, Story Remix, or something entirely different. At the moment though, it"s called Story Remix.

To get the app update now, you need to be a Windows Insider on the Fast ring. Currently, there"s no update for Windows 10 Mobile devices, so there will likely be a naming disparity when the feature update is released, although this really shouldn"t come as a surprise to anyone.
