Microsoft stops selling the Core m3 model of the Surface Laptop

Microsoft is holding an event in New York City on October 2, where it"s expected to announced refreshed models of the Surface Laptop and the Surface Pro with Intel"s eighth-generation processors. It would seem that the firm is starting to sell off its remaining stock of devices, as today, it stopped offering the Core m3 model of the Surface Laptop.

When configuring the Laptop on Microsoft"s U.S. store website, the option for a Core m3 is grayed out. Typically, these would be marked as out of stock, but that"s not the case here. In fact, there are many different configurations in different colors that are marked as out of stock, but the Core m3 CPU, which was only ever available in Platinum, can"t even be selected.

CPU RAM Storage Color Price Stock
Core i5 8GB 128GB Platinum $999 No
256GB $1,099 ($200 off) Yes
Burgundy No
Cobalt Blue Yes
Graphite Gold No
Core i7 Platinum $1,599 Yes
Burgundy No
Cobalt Blue Yes
Graphite Gold No
16GB 512GB Platinum $2,199 Yes
Burgundy
Cobalt Blue
Graphite Gold
1TB Platinum $2,699

As you can see, a lot of models are sold out, and many off these have been for some time.

The Platinum color has always been the standard color for a Surface Laptop. In the beginning the other colors were only offered with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, and those were U.S.-only. While availability of those has expanded and there are more models with more colors, newer models only come in Platinum, like the base model with the Core m3 and the highest end with 1TB of storage, neither of which were available when the device first launched.

We"ve reached out to Microsoft for an official statement on why the Core m3 model was pulled and if it"s coming back, but it"s very much doubtful since we"re expecting a refresh in a few weeks.
