Microsoft Surface demoed by Steve Ballmer at startup event

It"s been over two months since Microsoft shocked the PC industry when it announced its plans to release the Surface for Windows 8 and Windows RT. Aside from a street art viral marketing campaign, the company has been pretty quiet about its plans for the Surface since that press event in Los Angeles.

Today, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer paid a visit to RocketSpace, a San Fransisco-based technology startup accelerator, to promote Windows 8. He also brought over the Windows RT version of Surface. RocketSpace confirmed the sighting via Twitter.

Marijn Deurloo also posted up an image showing what looks very much like the Surface on his Twitter account. Another RocketSpace attendee, Eryc Branham, posted up a close up image of the Surface via Twitter.

The Official Microsoft BizSpark Twitter account also posted up word today that it will work with RocketSpace to create a Windows 8 app lab for startup companies. We will contact Microsoft to find out more about this plan.

As we have reported before, Microsoft plans to release the Windows RT version of Surface, with an NVIDIA Tegra processor, on October 26th alongside the launch of Windows 8. The Windows 8 Pro version of Surface, with an Intel processor inside, is scheduled to launch in late January.
