Microsoft Word for iPhone picks up new Copilot functionality, but with some limitations

Word is a core utility in Microsoft"s Office products, and while many people primarily use it to create documents and other forms of content on desktop-based interfaces like Windows, Mac, and the web, it also has robust mobile apps. One such example is the Word app on iOS, which doesn"t exactly have feature parity with its desktop counterpart, but Microsoft is striving to bring it closer to it by introducing a new Copilot functionality.

Basically, Word for iPhone will now allow you to leverage Copilot to co-create content with you. You can simply prompt it with an idea in your natural language, after which Copilot will create a document on your behalf. You can then further refine its output as well.

It"s worth noting that this was previously called Agent Mode, but it looks like Microsoft is simplifying this branding with its general release. Now, you can simply trigger this co-creator feature set by tapping the Copilot icon in a new or existing document and typing in your idea into the prompt box.

Microsoft has shared several other tips and tricks to make your experience worthwhile too. This includes giving clear instructions to update existing content, using the "/" character to reference other content, undo any unwanted changes, and more.

However, Copilot"s latest capabilities have a few limitations for now too. It cannot create new documents on your behalf, you have to do that manually or give it access in an existing document. It is unable to generate and insert images directly into the document as well, you"ll need to use Copilot Chat for that. It cannot add or modify comments, but if it replaces content that has a comment anchored to it, the comment may get deleted too. Finally, there are some limitations with Tracked Changes too, you can check them out here.

Copilot"s latest advancements are now available for all Word on iOS users, but you do need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
