Minecraft gets Stranger Things crossover, but Switch players will miss out

Microsoft and Netflix have teamed up again, continuing their mashups that involve the Stranger Things series. After Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the latest game visiting the Upside Down is Minecraft, giving players the chance to experience vital moments from the television series inside the sandbox with custom-made levels.

Featuring levels that create major moments from all seasons of the show, the DLC also lets Minecraft players choose their favorite characters to jump in as. This includes Eleven too, who arrives with her telekinetic powers for use in battle. As for other characters, Dr. Brenner is able to access restricted lab panels, Suzie can decipher encrypted codes, and Eddie can run his memorable D&D campaign. If the good side is too boring, even Vecna is here as a playable character with his mind control powers.

The DLC developer Blockception says that each character will help in their own way for completing the various available levels. While the DLC has a focus on cooperative play, solo players can also use the character switching feature to utilize multiple abilities.

"From discovering Eleven in Mirkwood forest and battling Demogorgons in the Upside Down, to joining the Scoop Troop on their Starcourt Mall investigations and facing Vecna as the grandfather clock strikes – this is your chance to relive the most iconic moments in Hawkins and beyond," says the announcement blog post. "With each level you complete, the town will evolve, unlocking new adventures to take on with your party. Trace down clues, solve puzzles, and battle foes with your trusted band of misfits. But who will you play as?"

The official Stranger Things DLC for Minecraft Bedrock Edition is now available on the in-game Minecraft Marketplace for 1510 Minecoins, which translate to about $9.

However, there is bad news for Nintendo Switch Minecraft players. Mojang said that the Stranger Things DLC will not be available on the platform, saying it can"t deliver a "great DLC experience" on the device, alluding to performance issues. At the same time, for those on mobile devices, at least 6GB of RAM is required to play the DLC as well.
