NetTrends: New Web Site Targets Users Sick of Ads

As long as this doesn"t add to the list of spam we already have, I"m fine with it

No pop-ups, no banner ads, no birds flying from the screen.

New Web site MyWay.com, a self-proclaimed rival to Internet media giant Yahoo! Inc., says it can make money without barraging Web surfers with flashy ads.

MyWay.com, which went live in late October, is trying to turn the adage, "you get nothing for free" on its head.

The site resembles Yahoo"s blue-and-white home page and offers users e-mail, news and a place to search and browse the Web without having to suffer dozens of streaming banners and musical pop ups.

And in another unusual twist for a Web company, the company will be profitable in its first month of operation, says MyWay.com founder and co-Chief Executive Bill Daugherty.

So what"s the catch?

"There is no catch," Daugherty insists. "There isn"t a "gotcha" and we"re going to live with that (mission) with our users."

MyWay.com"s ad-free site ironically comes from the owners of iWon, the sweepstakes site known for its in-your-face ads.
