New Surface Pro 4 firmware update fixes broken Windows Hello

Almost two weeks ago, Microsoft released a large batch of firmware and driver updates for the Surface Pro 4. While we can"t be completely certain that those updates caused the issue - unless the company releases a statement - many users began reporting that the Windows Hello camera on their tablet wasn"t working anymore.

Interestingly, there was apparently a problem driver that came bundled with the July 21 update, version 1.0.65.1, but which wasn"t documented in the changelog (via ComputerWorld). The workaround was to simply roll back the driver through the Device Manager, but luckily, Microsoft has now issued a fix.

This is the official changelog from the Surface Pro 4 update history page:

Windows Update History Name

Device Manager Name

Surface – System – 1.0.75.1

Surface Camera Windows Hello

  • 1.0.75.1 resolves Windows Hello experience error.

According to the "Value Indicator" chart, this update improves reliability and doesn"t affect security, connectivity, compatibility, performance, or battery life.

To grab the new update, you can head over to Settings -> Security & updates -> Windows Update -> Check for updates. The updated bundle isn"t available to manually install yet, but when it is, you"ll be able to find it here.
