Office 365 ProPlus will now ship with Teams by default

Microsoft today made a bunch of announcements around Microsoft 365, the service that combines Windows 10, Office 365, and Enterprise Mobility + Security. Along with the public preview of Windows Virtual Desktop, there are also some improvements coming to Office 365 ProPlus.

For one thing, businesses that install the suite of apps will now get Teams by default. Teams is meant to be the replacement for Skype for Business, with Microsoft just recently finishing its own internal transition from Skype to Teams. The collaboration service "combines chat, voice, video, files, meetings, and calls into a single, integrated experience."

Office 365 ProPlus installations will also be 64-bit by default, as Office installations were 32-bit by default for years. Naturally, this applies to Windows, since all Macs have been 64-bit for some time. There"s also going to be an in-place upgrade tool that will be released, which will allow businesses to switch to 64-bit Office without having to uninstall it and reinstall it.

All of these improvements, including both getting Teams by default and getting 64-bit Office by default, will be implemented this month.
