Opera 8 Beta 2 Released

After a long while, Opera 8"s second beta has been unofficially released. No changelog has been posted yet, but will appear once it is officially released, which should be soon.

There are a few apparent changes such as the new Appearance settings and a new option to "Report a site problem".

Gmail and Google Maps works flawlessly in this version, and Hotmail supposedly works better. Here is a small changelog posted by an Opera Employee:

Improved Security

  • Fix for IDN spoofing, by introducing a whitelist for safe top-level domains - curently :no:jp:de:se:kr:tw:cn:at:dk:ch:li:. Sites not in the whitelist will show the encoded domain in the URL field. The list is updated automatically when Opera checks for a new version.

  • The padlock icon is now always visible for HTTPS servers, and the name of the organization owning the certificate is displayed in the URL field.

  • Support for the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) - real-time requests for certificate status.

  • Other smaller fixes and changes.

  • and more...
The Final version of Opera 8 is expected to be released very soon by the end of this month.

Update: Opera 8 Beta 2 is now official. Full Changelog now available. At this point only the Windows version is available.
