OPPO launches Ace2 in China, featuring 40W wireless charging

Today, OPPO announced the successor to the Reno Ace, a smartphone first introduced back in October in the Chinese market. For the follow-up, OPPO has dropped Reno from the branding, and the phone is simply called OPPO Ace2.

The OPPO Ace2 comes with a set of flagship-level specs, including Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 865 5G chipset, up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The phone is focused on gaming, with OPPO using "4D constant cooling technology" to ensure that things keep running smoothly. It also features 4D vibration and Dolby Atmos sound for added immersion.

The display is dialed back compared to flagships like the Find X2 Pro, meaning it"s Full HD+ and has a 90Hz refresh rate, but it"s still an OLED panel. It also supports HDR10+, with a peak brightness of 1100 nits, and it covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

The biggest standout feature of the phone is the battery, specifically the charging speed. Like the Reno Ace, the 4,000mAh here can be charged with a cable at 65W, using what OPPO calls SuperVooc 2.0. This time around, though, OPPO is bringing the VOOC branding to wireless charging with AirVOOC, and the Ace2 supports 40W wireless charging thanks to it. Additionally, reverse wireless charging goes up to 10W.

OPPO says you can get two hours of gaming with 5 minutes of wired charging, and one hour with 5 minutes of wireless charging. AirVOOC wireless charging will also fully charge the phone in 56 minutes.

Finally, the camera setup here isn"t anything mind-blowing. It has a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and two depth cameras for portrait shots. The front-facing camera is 16MP.

The Ace2 will officially go on sale on April 20 in China, starting at ¥3,999 (roughly $566.66) for the model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 8GB + 256GB variant will cost ¥4,399 ($623.34), and the 12GB + 256GB model will go for ¥4,599 ($651.68). It"ll be available in grey, purple, and silver. Unfortunately, OPPO says the phone won"t be available outside of China, but the charging technology could come to other phones in the future.
