Payday 2 VR leaves beta, arrives as a free update to the game

Payday 2 players were given the opportunity to run heists in virtual reality in November last year with Overkill Software introducing a VR mode to the game. While the implementation arrived via a Steam beta program at first, the VR mode is now available to all players without needing to switch between builds.

Except for a few weapons such as bows that are still being worked on, the entire game is now playable in VR, with the developer saying:

Bring a sniper rifle with a magnified scope to cover your friends from afar, or why not stand on the front line with an LMG and a rocket launcher? Afterwards you could blast into the distance in a Longfellow packed with goats, it’s your choice!

Interested HTC Vive and Oculus Rift owners can activate the Payday 2 VR free DLC pack from this store page. Once done, launching the game will give players the option to play it in VR. Also, just like in the beta, cross-play between desktop and VR is activated, letting everyone jump into the game without needing to worry about finding enough players for their platform of choice.

The list of changes that the developer has implemented to incorporate VR into Payday 2 can be found here, and some highlights include a new driving system, a customizable inventory belt, and scopes that let players "keep one eye on the enemies and the other on your surroundings."
