San Francisco-based AI tech company Perplexity is back with its latest offering: Perplexity Health. As the name suggests, it brings a suite of connectors, including support for Apple Health, to expand the capabilities of its recently launched general-purpose AI agent, Perplexity Computer.
The latest announcement comes right after Perplexity launched its Comet AI-focused browser for iOS. One of the pain points that it wants to address with the new suite is that health data is scattered across different apps, devices, and portals. For instance, your fitness data might live on your phone, while your prescriptions, lab results, and other health records might be stored elsewhere.
The company announced that Perplexity Health is launching "with connectors for Apple Health, electronic health records from over 1.7 million care providers, and platforms including Fitbit, Ultrahuman, Withings, Clue, and many more." Alongside direct integrations, these are powered by partners like b.well and Terra API, it said, adding that support for ŌURA and Function is expected soon.

You can use Perplexity Health to track metrics and trends over time through a personalized dashboard. You will be able to throw questions about your health, and the AI will answer based on your medical records, lab results, and wearable data at once.
For instance, it lets you create personalized nutrition plans or generate a visit prep summary before a doctor"s appointment. However, Perplexity cautioned that it provides educational health information. It"s not a substitute for professional medical advice and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent diseases or other conditions.
The company assures that the answers will be grounded in premium medical literature, including clinical guidelines and peer-reviewed journals, with direct citations to the source material for each response.
For privacy, Perplexity said that the health data will be "protected with encryption in transit and at rest, with strict access controls, and tools to manage or delete information at any time." It added that you"ll be able to press buttons to disconnect electronic health records or wearable data.
Perplexity Health is rolling out in the US over the coming weeks to the subscribers of its Pro and Max plans. That said, Perplexity is not the first in line to launch a health-focused AI product and offer support for Apple Health. ChatGPT Health launched earlier this year, offering a similar experience. However, a performance evaluation by experts showed it might be too soon to trust it.
