Police nab wannabe dark web hitman

When we hear of about the “dark web” we usually get spun the same old line that it"s a haven for drug dealers, hackers, and hitmen. We’ve seen evidence of the first two, however, not so much regarding the operation of hitmen on networks such as Tor. It turns out, though, that actual wannabe hitmen do exist on the dark web, and one is currently sitting in a New Jersey jail with his bail set at $1 million.

The New Jersey authorities said that a New York man, 18-year-old Joshua Rowling, had been charged for offering his services as a hired killer on the dark web in return for money and a gun equipped with a silencer. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder for hire and weapons-related charges.

The details surrounding the case are a little thin on the ground at the moment, however, authorities said that investigators determined Rowling has used an encrypted online network to advertise his services as a hitman.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt or killed by Rowling as police managed to lure him out to catch him. The authorities of New Jersey said that the wannabe hitman drove to Mahwah from his home in Richmondville, New York, late last week. He met up with an undercover officer who he thought wanted to hire him but was subsequently arrested.
