The twelfth day of the Epic Games Store"s mystery giveaway promotion has officially landed, and that means a new game is here. The store has begun a giveaway for SKALD: Against the Black Priory this time. PC gamers can grab the newest drop and keep it forever if they claim it before the next freebie appears tomorrow, December 29.
Developed by High North Studios, SKALD: Against the Black Priory can be easily mistaken for a retro RPG experience judging by its 8-bit art style and gameplay. The 2024-released game is a retro-style, party-based RPG set in a grim-dark fantasy world.
Not all systems are sticking to the retro theme though, with modern inventory systems, quest logs, and an accessible UI making for a much smoother gameplay experience than what classic games provided. The turn-based conflicts can even be bypassed entirely using auto-resolve for players who may not want to get bogged down with the combat.
"Set in an unforgiving world with lovecraftian horrors and choice-based dialogue, your story will take many unexpected twists and turns," says the developer. "Living life as a mercenary, you’ll need to roll the dice to determine whether you fall prey to certain peril or escape grave danger."
SKALD: Against the Black Priory is free to claim on the Epic Games Store for an entire day. As the special holiday promotion continues, the store is keeping the identity of all upcoming freebies a secret until they go live. The upcoming mystery freebie will reveal itself and unlock for all PC gamers at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET, December 29.
So far, the store"s offer has given away Hogwarts Legacy, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, Eternights, Blood West, Sorry We"re Closed, Paradise Killer, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, The Callisto Protocol, Disco Elysium - The Final Cut, We Were Here Together, and Cassette Beasts to keep for PC gamers. The event is set to run until December 31 with a fresh giveaway every day.
