Nvidia has had some success with its Tegra 2 mobile processor. The dual-core chip has been put inside a number of Android-based smartphones and tablets including the Motorola Xoom. The performance of the Tegra 2 inside these devices has been highly praised by tech critics. But Nvidia is already promoting its next generation mobile chip. Earlier this year it showed off a game demo that ran on that upcoming quad-core processor, code named "Kal-El". The game demo showed dynamic lighting and real time physics support that was right up there with a high end PC games.
Now comes word that the very first device that will have the Kal-El tablet will come from Asus. Fudzilla reports, via unnamed sources, that the Asus Transformer 2 tablet will have the chip inside. The first version of the 10-inch screen based Transformer, released earlier this year, is powered by Nvidia"s Tegra 2 chip.
The story doesn"t go into details about what else the Asus Transformer 2 will have inside nor does it have a specific release date. However, it is expected to be released sometime before the end of 2011. Nvidia"s Kal-El processor could also find its way into more Android-based tablets before the end of the year. The first smartphones with the quad-core chip could be released in the first quarter of 2012.
