Rumor: iPad 2 coming to Sprint

Sprint is expected to start selling its own version of Apple"s iPhone 5 smartphone when Apple launches the device later this year. But now a new rumor at 9to5mac.com reports that Sprint will also be getting its own version of Apple"s iPad 2 tablets. The report, which cites unnamed sources, claims that the Sprint version of the iPad 2 will launch around the time or shortly after Sprint starts selling the iPhone 5.

The report also speculates that the iPad 2 from Sprint might be able to access Sprint"s WiMax wireless network, which is faster than its normal 3G network. Currently the iPad 2 versions sold by AT&T and Verizon can only access their older and slower 3G networks. If true that could give Sprint"s version of the iPad 2 a competitive edge over the versions sold by the other two US carriers. So far neither Sprint nor Apple has officially commented on this new report.

Rumors began to hit the Internet earlier this summer that Sprint would become the third US wireless carrier to start selling the iPhone 5 when Apple launches the smartphone. So far Apple has yet to announce when the iPhone 5 will be released but speculation has centered around the month of October. When it does launch, many people believe that Sprint customers will be able to use the company"s unlimited data plan for the iPhone 5, something that AT&T and Verizon no longer have. The iPhone 5 could also be available for T-Mobile users as well.
