Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 will reportedly include an ECG feature

The original Galaxy Watch Active

The Apple Watch series 4 was a ground-breaking device in a couple of ways. In addition to the design and software improvements, it was the first smartwatch to come with an electrical heart rate sensor that could perform an electrocardiogram (ECG) on its own. Given the health-related benefits of this capability, it"s no surprise that Samsung is reportedly working to include it in its own upcoming smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2.

The information comes from SamMobile, which also recently reported that the device is in development. According to the report, ECG isn"t the only feature Samsung is taking from the latest Apple Watch. The watch will also be able to detect signs of atrial fibrillation by checking the user"s heart rate periodically in the background and let them know if there"s any health risk.

Additionally, fall detection, another feature that was included in the Apple Watch series 4, will also be included in the Galaxy Watch Active 2. This means the watch can detect when the user has fallen, and ask them to either call emergency services or dismiss the notification. Just like the product from Cupertino, emergency services will be called automatically if the user doesn"t respond to the notification.

There"s no information regarding whether or not these features will also be on the successor to the original Galaxy Watch, which was released last year.

The Galaxy Watch Active was released just a few months ago, so it is interesting that these details are already being discovered about its successor. According to previous reports, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will feature a very similar design to the original but will come in two sizes - 40mm and 44mm - and have a new version of the One UI interface.
