Samsung has announced a new version of Samsung Internet, the web browser that"s included with its Android devices. While most will probably be using something like Google Chrome, Samsung has continually added new capabilities to its homegrown alternative, and this update to version 14.0 - only available in beta for now - adds a few welcome improvements.
For the privacy-conscious, Samsung Internet now comes with "Smart Anti Tracking", which detects and automatically blocks websites from tracking the user. There"s also a new dashboard showing a summary of recent security and privacy events in the browser. Found in the settings, this page will show the number of ads, redirects, and pop-ups blocked in the past few days.
If you"re into mobile productivity, there"s also some good news for you. With this update, phones that support Samsung"s App Pairs will now be able to pair two instances of the Samsung browser, so you can view two pages at the same time. This could be especially useful on foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold2, but it will work on standard form factors as well. If you do have a foldable, though, you"ll also have Flex mode enabled automatically in the browser, making videos play on the top half of the screen and placing playback controls in the bottom half. This will kick in whenever you play videos in full screen.
Rounding things out, it"s now possible to select your favorite font to apply to the browsing experience, though this is an experimental feature found under the Labs section of the browser. Other features include support for S Pen to Text on the Galaxy Tab S7 series - a feature announced as part of the OneUI 3.1 update - an improved reader mode, and a new translation extension that supports 18 languages.
