Skype on iOS adds full screen support for iPhone 5

Apple launched the first major redesign of the iPhone earlier this year with the iPhone 5, thanks to its increase in screen size from 3.5 to four inches. However, people who used the Skype client for iOS were not able to use all of this bigger display for video calls on the newest iPhone.

That changes today, thanks to an update that Microsoft-owned Skype has just released via iTunes. In a post on the Skype Garage blog, the company said, "We"ve seen your tweets, comments and app store reviews requesting screen compatibility with the iPhone 5, and we"ve addressed your requests. Today we have released a hotfix for Skype for iPhone; now you can enjoy Skype calling on the iPhone 5 in full screen glory!"

The new 4.1.2 update also features unnamed bug fixes for the iOS port of Skype.

The Skype division of Microsoft has been rather busy of late. It launched what it called a public "Preview Version" of its client for Windows Phone 8 smartphones over the weekend. Microsoft also confirmed last week that Skype will replace the older Windows Live Messenger service, with the transition to be completed sometime in the first quarter of 2013.
