Spotify launches Group Session for paying customers

Spotify has launched a new feature for Premium users called Group Session. The new feature allows two or more users in the same space to share control over the music being played. Aside from the ability to choose what’s being played, participants can also construct a playlist and add songs of their choosing. While the feature is still considered beta quality, Premium users around the world will have access from today.

Group Session isn’t limited to just two people, according to Techcrunch, the feature supports up to 100 users at once but they have to be in the same space at the same time – we may have to wait a while for groups of that size to assemble given the widespread coronavirus lockdowns.

To start a Group Session, one of the users, known as a host, will have to tap the Connect menu in the bottom-left corner of their Play screen. From here, they can share a code with guests who can join the session by scanning the code. When a guest uses the playback controls or adds a song to the playlist, the changes are reflected for all connected users.

If you’ve previously heard about this feature, that’ll be because it has been in testing and available to a few users since May 2019. Today’s news reflects that the feature is now widely available to Premium users all around the world.
