Spotify has announced a new feature, in beta, that lets you get some context on the music you"re playing. It is called "About the Song" and uses little swipeable story cards to give you behind-the-scenes details.

Spotify said it is introducing About the Song to help you understand the "craft and context behind a song." The company believes this will deepen your connection to the music.

Music fans know the feeling: A song stops you in your tracks, and you immediately want to know more. What inspired it, and what’s the meaning behind it? We believe that understanding the craft and context behind a song can deepen your connection to the music you love.

The feature is Premium only and available on Android and iOS in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. Spotify did not mention the exact source for its About this Song information, only claiming it is from a "third-party." If you are eligible, About the Song can be found in the Now Playing View. You just scroll down below the album art, and you should see the card for any track that supports the feature. From there, you can swipe through the stories.

We are just a month and some days into the new year, and Spotify has blessed us with so many updates to its platform. Recently, we saw lyric translations finally get a worldwide release for all users, about four years after the company first tested the feature in limited markets.

Before this, the company expanded its in-app messaging to include group chats for up to 10 people. The company also rolled out "Listening Activity," which allows you to see what friends are listening to in real time.

Premium subscription prices have also increased in the US across different tiers. The Individual plan is now $12.99/month, up from $11.99/month, Duo is $18.99/month, and the Family plan will set you back $21.99/month.
