Tablet market grew 45.1% in Q3 2010

IDC has released its results for the 3rd quarter of 2010 showing that the tablet market grew 45.1% which was largely due thanks to the Apple iPad. This is because of it"s high demand which managed to take out 87.4% or 4.2 Million units of the worldwide market. The popularity of the market also shows that not only tablets being shipped is on the rise but also ereaders which was up 40% or 2.7 Million units shipped in the 3Q.

"The media tablet market"s rapid evolution will continue to accelerate in 4Q10 and beyond with new product and service introductions, channel expansion, price competition and experimentation with new use cases among consumers and enterprises," said Susan Kevorkian, research director, Mobile Connected Devices.

IDC expects that the tablet market will finish off the year shipping 17 Million and 10.8 Million ereader units, and that the market will be more then double in size at the end of 2011 to 44.6 Million tablets shipped whilst ereaders will grow to 14.7 Million. Further market predictions can be found on the IDC website.
