Telegram 5.3 arrives with Chat Backgrounds 2.0

Following a brief delay on the iOS App Store, Telegram 5.3 is now available on Android and iOS. The new update comes with new chat background features in what the company is calling Chat Backgrounds 2.0. With the new update, users can apply backgrounds to their chats that support motion and blur effects. Additionally, you choose any color as your background, add a pattern and alter the intensity. On Android, you can also pick and edit gallery photos to use as a background.

Once you’re happy with your newly created wallpaper it’s possible to share it with friends via a link. You can find the link to share the background in the Background Preview window and hitting the share button in the top right.

Lastly, if you have no creative skills and just want to find a premade background you can do a custom search. From the chat background settings, you can do a search using keywords or a color that you want the wallpaper to be.

Telegram, in the past, has had issues getting updates out on Apple’s App Store. Telegram 5.3 also faced some issues according to Telegram founder, Pavel Durov:

“It seems iOS users have to wait a while to get the update, because the App Store has been experiencing issues since yesterday. I expect that Apple is going to get their issues sorted out in the next few hours as Cupertino is waking up.”

Android users can grab the update from the Play Store, iOS users should be able to grab the update too now given that the App Store website lists version 5.3 in the update history, however, given the issues earlier you might have to wait a bit.
