Recently we covered a couple of NAS deals from Ugreen. One of them is a more premium 8-bay 272 TB option for just over $1200 and the second is a 144TB 4-bay variant for under $600. If you find them interesting and want to get storage for them, then Seagate is offering its IronWolf Pro 28TB CMR drive is a good deal for $610, which means you are paying under $22 per TB (purchase link under the specs table down below).
As mentioned above, these are based on CMR, or Conventional Magnetic Recording, technology. These are better for NAS compared to SMR (Shingled MR) because they are more robust. CMR drives can deliver consistent write speeds, reliable RAID rebuilds, and durability for 24x7 workloads. Unlike SMR, CMR avoids overlapping tracks, thus ensuring predictable performance and long-term reliability, which are key for continuous NAS and similar operations.

If you only have a budget of $500 then check out the 20TB model that is selling for $480, which means you pay $24 per TB. Hence, the 28TB model is definitely the better value but the 20TB is a good alternative as well.
