Twitter rules will cause Tweetro to launch paid Windows 8 app

Earlier this week, we reported that the development team at Lazyworm Applications were forced to remove its free Windows 8 third-party Twitter app, Tweetro, from the Windows Store. This was due to the fact that the app had reached the 100,000 user mark and, according to Twitter"s recently revised rules, no third-party Twitter app can have more than that amount.

Well, Lazyworm Applications said it has since tried to contact Twitter to see if they could get a break on that rule, especially since the promised official Twitter Windows 8 app won"t likely be released for a few months. Unfortunately, as Windows Observer reports, the team got a response back from Twitter that said the Tweetro app "does not qualify for an exemption."

This is not quite the end for Tweetro, however. Atta Elayyan, co-founder of Lazyworm Applications, has announced that a paid version of Tweetro will be released sometime in the "weeks to come". There"s no word on how much it the app will now cost, although he did say that the people who have already downloaded and installed the free version of Tweetro will have to pay money if they want to continue to use it once the paid version is released.

Elayyan added:

We hope that people understand our situation and continue showing us their support as we’d love nothing more than to continue delivering the best possible Twitter experience on Windows 8… Even if it’s only accessible to a very limited number of people.
