Unboxing and first impressions of the Honor MagicBook 14

Honor introduced the new MagicBook laptops on February 24, during what would have been its press conference at MWC 2020 before that event got canceled. Honor moved forward with the unveiling though, and the MagicBook 14 and 15 are pretty interesting laptops. In terms of specs, the two are exactly the same, and only the screen size is different, as indicated by the names.

I received the MagicBook 14, and it"s powered by AMD"s Ryzen 5 3500U processor, coupled with the built-in Radeon Vega 8 graphics card. That"s not AMD"s latest and greatest, as the company recently announced the Ryzen 4000 series of mobile processors, but it should still be a solid mid-range chip. It"s based on the Zen+ architecture and built on AMD"s 12nm process, and not the more recent 7nm.

The laptop also has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of NVMe SSD storage, so it seems to fit right into the mid-range. It has some nice features, too, like a fingerprint reader built into the power button and a large trackpad with Precision drivers.

The last thing that stands out about the laptop is the design, making use of blue chamfered edges on the lid, as well as a blue Honor logo, giving the laptop just a little bit of flair and saving it from being too generic-looking. It"s set to be available on April 7 in the UK, where it will cost £549. It costs €599 across Europe. Check out our first impressions below.
