VMware Workstation Pro 25H2

VMware Workstation provides a seamless way to access all of the virtual machines you need, regardless of where they are running. Remotely connect to virtual machines running on VMware vSphere, ESXi or another copy of VMware Workstation. Workstation’s web interface lets you access local and server hosted virtual machines from your PC, smart phone, tablet or any device with a modern browser. Run applications on multiple operating systems including Linux, Windows and more at the same time on the same PC without rebooting. Evaluate and test new operating systems, applications and patches in an isolated environment.

Take Your Productivity to the Next Level

  • Run applications on multiple operating systems including Linux, Windows and more at the same time on the same PC without rebooting.
  • Evaluate and test new operating systems, applications and patches in an isolated environment.
  • Demonstrate complex software applications on a single laptop in a repeatable, reliable manner.
  • Consolidate multiple computers running web servers, database servers, etc. onto a single machine.
  • Build reference architectures for evaluation before deploying into production.
  • Simply drag and drop to move your virtual machines from your PC to vSphere, or the cloud.

What"s new in VMware Workstation Pro 25H2:

  • This release introduces a new versioning model, delivers new features, and expands support for the latest operating systems and hardware — all designed to make virtualization more seamless, powerful, and up-to-date.

A Clearer Versioning Model

  • Staying current with your tools should be simple. With calendar versioning, it’s now easier to understand when your release was published and plan upgrades accordingly.
  • VMware is moving away from traditional version numbers (e.g., Workstation 17.6.x, Fusion 13.6.x) and adopting a new naming format — 25H2 — which reflects the year (2025) and the half of the year (H2). This change provides consistency across releases and ensures greater clarity for customers.

VMware Workstation Pro 25H2 provides the following new capabilities:

  • Introducing dictTool: A command-line tool to examine and modify VMware configuration files, such as a vmx file or user preferences file. For more information, see Using dictTool to Modify Configuration Files.

  • Added support for virtual hardware version 22
  • Added support for Hyper-V/WHP detection

Resolved Issues

When quitting Workstation Pro on Linux while in Full Screen mode, the application crashes

  • While using Workstation Pro on Linux, quitting the application results in an unexpected failure with a coredump file. This issue is fixed in this release.

When using the power off button in the toolbar, the suspend state cannot be discarded for VMs

  • If the power off button in the toolbar is configured to perform a guest shutdown instead of a hard power off, when used on a suspended VM, the button fails to discard the suspend state. This issue is fixed in this release.

The Event Viewer tool on Windows displays a large number of messages from the VMware Authorization Service

  • An incorrect default logging configuration results in the VMware Authorization Service (vmauthd) sending an excessive number of logging messages to the Event Viewer tool. This issue is fixed in this release.

When collecting a support bundle on Workstation Pro on Linux, the operation requires extensive amount of time

  • When clicking Collect Support Data, every file in the proc filesystem is being copied individually by using the cp command, which results in a slow collection process. This issue is fixed in this release.

When using Intel GPU on a Linux host, 3D acceleration fails

  • Intel Meteor Lake GPUs that run on a Linux host operating system have specific GPU memory heaps. Enabling the 3D acceleration option, causes an error in the memory synchronization code, which results in video rendering corruption on the guest operating system. This issue is fixed in this release.
