WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.24.8 is rolling out a new feature that adds checkboxes to the forward picker interface. The update is available to some beta testers and will roll out to more users in the coming weeks. With the change, WhatsApp is trying to make the forwarding process more intuitive, especially for new users who may have been confused by the previous lack of checkboxes.
Previously, the forward picker screen didn’t have checkboxes, making it difficult for new users to understand how to select multiple recipients. The new checkboxes give users a clear visual cue for selection, making the workflow faster. This visual guidance is expected to reduce hesitation during the forwarding process and help to reduce wrong sends.
WhatsApp is currently experimenting with two different configurations for the new checkboxes: round and square. The round checkboxes are a familiar design aligned with other circular UI elements in the app. The square checkboxes, on the other hand, are slightly larger and offer a more defined, angular look. It is not yet known which design Meta will eventually pick when it launches the feature for users.
By testing out both of the designs, Meta is able to collect feedback and observe usability patterns among beta testers. This is called A/B testing and will allow Meta to roll out the best option later on. This feature is currently rolling out to beta testers who have installed the latest update from the Google Play Store. It will continue to be made available to more people over the coming weeks.
Earlier this month, Meta began rolling out a feature in the WhatsApp beta that lets you forward messages to Meta AI. WhatsApp is a hub for misinformation, so it"s hoped that this feature will allow users to quickly check the veracity of the content they see on the platform.
