Windows 10 build 10049: Music and Video preview apps now available in Store Beta

Microsoft has recently released Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10049, which is the first release to feature the new Project Spartan web browser.. This is not the only change since build 10041, and there are still more surprises for Windows Insiders to be found.

If you go to the beta Store app (grey tile) in Windows 10, you can now search for ‘Music Preview’ and ‘Video Preview’, which are the first versions of the apps that will replace Xbox Music and Xbox Video from Windows 8.1. It’s also worth noting that Microsoft has,at least for now, dropped the ‘Xbox’ branding from these two apps.

As you can probably see from the two images above, the new apps have a different UI as Microsoft has moved away from the dark grey and green coloring of the old apps. They now feature the same light theme as the new Calculator and Alarm apps in the latest build.

Here’s the release notes:

With this release, you"ll be able to browse, manage, and play all the content that is on your device, as well as music you have on OneDrive or music you have added with a Music Pass. As a Music Pass holder, you"ll also find the Explore and Radio features you"ve come to know and love. Known issues: The Music Preview app doesn"t support purchase of songs or albums. For the time being use the Music app to buy your tunes. There"s no context menu when you right-click or press/hold on an item. You can still access secondary actions by choosing "Select" and choosing an item.

The new Music and Video preview apps are barebones, but that will change in time, same with the Photos app, so be sure to submit your feedback to Microsoft if you have any. You can run the new apps side by side with Xbox Music and Xbox Video.
