Windows 7 more popular than Harry Potter in the UK

Boy wizard Harry Potter has been outsold by Windows 7, as Microsoft"s latest operating system becomes the biggest pre-order of all time, according to Amazon. More pre-orders of Windows 7 were sold within the first 8 hours of its availability than in Vista"s entire pre-order period.

Managing director of Amazon, Brian McBride said, "The launch of Windows 7 has superseded everyone"s expectations, storming ahead of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" as the biggest-grossing pre-order product of all-time at Amazon.co.uk, and demand is still going strong."

McBride added, "Over the past three months, only Dan Brown"s The Lost Symbol has sold more copies than Windows 7, which is an incredible achievement for a software product."

Amazon is not the only company to notice such large sales of Windows 7. At the UK launch of Windows 7, PC World claimed to have "sold more pre order copies of Windows 7 than we sold in an entire year for Windows Vista."
