Windows 8 Release Preview reportedly landing June 1st

The Windows 8 Release Preview is nearly here and if the latest information is correct, June 1st is the day to mark your calendar. The information comes from Canouna who posted the Tweet and is well known within the Windows community for leaking images from the latest builds that are not publically available.

While Neowin cannot confirm the information, Canouna does have a solid track record for providing insider Windows 8 information and stated that his friends in Redmond confirmed the date too. The release date is a Friday, which does raise some concern but at the same time Microsoft does not provide official support for the platform, so it most likely won’t force anyone to work over the weekend to make sure the launch goes smoothly.

We have previously reported that the Windows 8 build 8400 would be the Release Preview build number and images from the build have been leaking left and right. June 1st is a little over a week away which means we do not have to wait much longer to get our hands on Microsoft’s latest public build of Windows 8.

A retail launch date for Windows 8 has not been announced but it is widely believed that the final product will ship in October. If we are using Windows 7 as a baseline, we should see a Windows 8 RTM in July.
