Windows 8/RT Metro app contest announced; $100,000 grand prize

Would you like to make $100,000? Of course you would. Do you know how to make a cool app that will run on Windows 8 and Windows RT? Then you are in better luck. Qualcomm has just announced plans to hold a Windows 8/RT Metro app contest, with the winner of the best overall app getting $100,000 for the trouble.

Qualcomm has posted up the details of the contest on their website along with an FAQ page (sorry, the contest is only open to residents of the US and the District of Columbia). In addition to the big prize, Qualcomm will also offer several smaller prizes for Best Connectivity Use ($20,000), Best Gaming App ($20,000) and Best Produtivity App ($20,000). In addition, there"s a $40,000 prize for the best app that uses the AllJoyn peer-to-peer software development framework. However, the Windows 8 Beta SDK for AllJoyn won"t be released until sometime in July.

The submission period begins now and ends on October 1st. One judge from Microsoft and Qualcomm, along with judges from two tech-based websites, will evaluate the entries with the winners revealed on October 18th.
