Windows Phone 7 Xbox LIVE services unavailable

Xbox Live services are unavailable from Windows Phone 7 devices (being the second outage for Windows Phone 7 Marketplace/Xbox LIVE services this week). As many device owners noticed yesterday, the Windows Phone 7 marketplace was unavailable, as part of an extended maintenance. On Twitter, a Microsoft employee wrote  that "It"s a new issue that users are unable to access Xbox LIVE features at this time". When attempting to access the Xbox LIVE system from your WP7 device, you may see a forever scrolling "Updating..." near the top of the screen.

Upon visiting the Xbox LIVE status website, Microsoft has issued a service alert stating that:

"Users may experience difficulties with the following services:

  • Users will experience issues attempting to use LIVE services that use Token services including but not limited to connecting to Facebook\Twitter on the Xbox 360 Console, signing into Xbox LIVE using the Windows Mobile 7 phone, and editing avatars or viewing achievements on Xbox.com.

We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience."

As an owner of an HTC HD7, I have been able to verify the issue, and users over on wpcentral are also reporting the same difficulties. However, I can still download games on my device. Hopefully, Microsoft will be able to address this shortly as they did with the marketplace outage.

Update: According to the Xbox LIVE status website, there is no longer an outage with the service.
