Windows RT 8.1 back in the Windows Store

Windows RT 8.1 update available again for free in Windows Store. Go update your Windows RT and Surface RT devices now!

— Microsoft Support (@MicrosoftHelps) October 22, 2013

A few days back, Microsoft pulled the Windows RT 8.1 update from the Windows Store after consumers were reporting that the update was bricking their device. While Microsoft said that it was a small subset of the Surface RT users who were affected, by pulling the update, no one was able to download the new OS.

The good news here is that Microsoft has fixed the issue and the Windows RT 8.1 update is now back in the store. Microsoft made the announcement over Twitter, so if you didn"t get in on the update before, you can once again update your machine.

For Microsoft to pull the update, the flaw must have been serious. Surely the Surface RT had to have been one of the most tested devices for the update which makes it seem a bit odd that a show-stopping bug made its way through quality control.
