WWDC 2026 gets an official date: Tighten your seatbelts for iOS 27, macOS 27, and more

Apple"s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is coming back, setting high hopes for what Apple is baking this time for its platforms and devices. Amid Apple"s 50th-anniversary mega-celebrations, the Cupertino giant dropped the official WWDC 2026 dates: June 8 through June 12.

As you might already know, the WWDC event has mostly been about Apple software and developer-focused updates rather than new devices, such as the most repairable MacBook in years, the iPhone 17e, the M4 iPad Air, and the Studio Display XDR, which we saw in a big week of launches this month.

One significant change Apple has made since the COVID-19 pandemic is shifting the keynote to an online format, which is livestreamed across the globe. However, students and developers get invited to a special in-person event to watch the livestream at Apple Park and get a chance to meet Apple engineers.

While Apple hasn"t been a big spark in this area, it said that AI advancements will be among the main highlights of WWDC 2026, alongside upcoming features for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, visionOS 27, and other Apple platforms.

Overall, the iOS 27 update is expected to focus on performance refinements, but Apple and Google entered a multi-year partnership to use Gemini models for the next generation of Apple Foundation Models and finally bring an upgraded Siri. It was reported that Apple is working to bring ads to Apple Maps to crunch more cash for its services business.

The official WWDC 2026 Keynote will commence on June 8, which typically happens at 10 am PT (1 pm ET). It will be followed by the Platforms State of the Union. Apple will livestream the keynote at various locations, including its main website, Apple Developer app/website, and YouTube channel.

Apple said that the five-day event will have over 100 video sessions and interactive group labs where developers can connect with Apple engineers and designers. It will announce the winners of this year"s Swift Student Challenge on March 26, who can apply to attend the special in-person event.

People who are members of the Apple Developer Program, Apple Developer Enterprise Program, or Switch Student Challenge winners since 2024 can apply for the special event until 11:59 pm PT on March 30. Apple will select participants for the event at random. However, 50 Distinguished Winners from the Swift challenge will be automatically invited to Apple Park for a three-day experience.
