Xbox app on Windows 10 to drop group messaging support from May 23

The Xbox app on Windows 10 has been helping gamers to seamlessly manage their activities, among other tasks, between their console and PC. However, it has been quite a while since Microsoft rolled out a major update to the tool, and a new pop-up message on the app outlines its future.

Microsoft is notifying users of the Xbox app on Windows 10 that group messaging will be discontinued from May 23 as part of its effort to improve chat features for the app. Changes that are coming to the Xbox messaging platform include support for GIF and a secondary inbox for non-friends, among others.

Users may also do well to save a copy of their old chats on the app as Microsoft warns that old group messages will disappear after the update. Microsoft aims for the transition to shift its focus to console settings and simplified experience on the Xbox app.

The upcoming changes don"t mean that group messaging on desktops will be phased out completely. Microsoft says it is working on a desktop solution for group chats, which will be released as part of a future update to Windows.

Meanwhile, to get the latest Xbox app experience for group messaging, users are advised to use the Xbox app for Android and iOS while waiting for the upgrade to hit Xbox consoles on May 23.
