Xiaomi announces new Mi 5c with its own Surge S1 processor

Xiaomi has announced its latest handset, the Mi 5c, at Mobile World Congress. While this may look similar to its other handsets that have been announced over the past year, what makes this release special is the fact that the firm is using its own processor in the device for the very first time.

The Mi 5c will come with equipped with the newly announced Surge S1 processor. The SoC is a mid-range processor and roughly comparable to Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 625 processor. What this means is that you will most likely get great performance without compromising battery life.

The Mi 5c will also offer 3GB RAM, 64GB storage, a 12MP camera, 5.5-inch display and will be packaged in a beautiful metal housing. In order to get the most out of the unit, the firm has packed the handset with 2860mAh of battery that will support fast charging. Lastly, Xiaomi has also touted that it will be updating to Android 7.1 Nougat by March. The Mi 5c will be available soon in three colors and be priced at RMB 1,499 or around $218.
