Xiaomi announces the Mi 10 in China, global launch delayed

Xiaomi today unveiled the latest entries in its flagship lineup of smartphones, the Mi 10 family, to the Chinese market (via Engadget). As you"d expect, the new phones pack flagship-level specs, but at a relatively low price.

As the company had said before, the Xiaomi Mi 10 family is powered by the Snapdragon 865 chipset, which means that, at least in China, it supports 5G. There are options for either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. Both phones also have a 6.67-inch Full HD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+, thanks to a peak brightness of 1,120 nits on the Mi 10 and 1,200 nits on the Mi 10 Pro.

In terms of battery, the Mi 10 packs a 4,780mAh unit, while the Mi 10 pro curiously has a smaller 4,500mAh battery. However, the Mi 10 Pro offers faster charging, up to 50W wired, or 30W wireless, while the regular Mi 10 has just 30W charging, both with a cable and wirelessly. Both phones also support 10W reverse wireless charging.

Both the Mi 10 and Mi 10 pro have a quad-camera array on the back, and on both of them the primary sensor is a 108MP camera, similar to what"s on the Galaxy S20 Ultra from Samsung. The differences are in the additional cameras, where the Mi 10 uses a 13MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP camera for macro shots, and another 2MP depth sensor. Meanwhile, the Mi 10 Pro has a 20MP ultra-wide that can also handle macro shots, a 12MP "portrait lens" with 2x optical zoom, and an 8MP periscope lens for 10x hybrid zoom and optical stabilization. Both phones are capable of recording 8K video at 30 frames per second.

Pricing details will likely vary by region, but in China, the Mi 10 starts at ¥3,999 (roughly $573) for the model with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of storage, and goes up to ¥4,699 ($673) for the 12GB/256GB model. Meanwhile, the Mi 10 Pro starts at ¥4,999 ($716) for the 8GB/256GB model and goes up to ¥5,999 ($860) for the model with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

If you"re waiting on a global announcement, you"ll need to wait a little longer. In light of the cancellation of MWC 2020, Xiaomi has decided to postpone the launch event to an unspecified date. The launch event will still be in Europe.
