VLC and you don't have to crappify your PC with various files. ;)

I have installed VLC player but it will not play Quick Time and Real Player files.

Can you tell me how to ?

Also is FFDshow same as CCCP ?

Why nobody recommended K Lite Mega Pack ? Just curious or may be stupid question ?

Thank You

Depends on what you want to watch I guess. If one of the things is fansubbed anime, then you should go with the CCCP, because it was developed for that purpose, and you can also watch other things as well. Also, some fansubbers are turning to .MKV format, which allows for fancier and more detailed subtitles, and offers more options for the fansubber while they are working. I don't believe you can watch those with FFDshow (not 100% sure though).

I used to use the K Lite pack, but I found the CCCP to be more convenient, and lightweight.

The CCCP project is probably the best one out there. Its unde rconstant development for one thing, so you know the stuff is actually maintained. But the main reason is that the anime community release stuff in just about every format under the sun, so CCCP perfectly suited for just about anything you're gonna come across.

don't go for VLC as it messes up big style with soft subtitles just get the CCCP and your all set

+1

I noticed a huge difference when I played .mkv files with VLC and Media Player Classic (CCCP Project). It's amazing how MPC plays it without stuttering.

Any anime lovers or .mkv users should use MPC.

Do NOT install any codec packs!

Honestly, you don't need them. They're unnecessary baggage. They (theoretically) slow down the system. They also tend to cause incompatibilities and screw up media playback (even in games!) if you don't know what you're doing.

Infact, I'd suggest you avoid any software/codec/driver "packs" like the plague.

Solution: Use GOM Player or KMPlayer. Both of them have built-in codecs that have been throughly tested and do not interfere with the rest of the system.

If you try to play an unknown codec, they'll find out which codec is needed and give you the appropriate download link.
