KO, what OS are you running?

in Xp you can do it through registry,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Office 10.0 Outlook Preferences

Data Type: REG_DWORD

Value Name: MinToTray

Data: 1 (0 to disable MinToTray)

i am still trying to figure out how to do it in 2k, not sure how yet though...so if anyone knows...(i run 2k at work.. where i do have outlook always open....)

I noticed you asked for anything BUT minimize-to-tray progs, but seemed happy with the Powermenu tip.

So here we go:

In my opinion TrayIt! is far better!

Free, no install neccessary, configurable and it works with any window/program. You can choose to only minimize Outlook Express to tray, and it will go to Tray when you click the minimize button in the main window.

No fiddling with Task Bar entries required (like with Powermenu).

You can set up Outlook Express to check for new emails every two minutes, minimize it to Tray, and you will see the New Email icon in the Tray when you recieve new mail.

Here is what it looks like when using Outlook Express:

newmail.jpg

This is the New Mail icon next to the Outlook Express minimized window icon.

(ps. trayit beats the crap out of all the other tray apps! try it and you will see. You cannot do a regedit trick with Outlook Express, so why not have a prog loaded that minimizes any window you want to tray, or simply by right-clicking the close button?)

i want to know the registry trick for win 2k, because i use microsoft outlook and tray it right now, but everytime i open a message (new mail or compose a new letter) after i send or close it, there is still an icon for it in my tray... i have to double click on it, and it opens a blanck message with the subject of the recently closed message.. then close it.. it just gets annoying, and i am sure it has to do with a glitch in tray it... other than that specific program error, however, i agree that tray it is a great program

Hmmm, never had that problem...

Are you sure you are using the original Tray It! ? >link here<

And not the crappy ripoff version of TrayIt? >link here<

The ripoff version is very buggy, and should be avoided!

Minimizing Outlook express to the tray is basicly pointless, might as well just be in the taskbar. If minimized to tray, you end up with 2 icons whenever you have mail (the minimized OE and the new mail notify) which just looks crappy.

This is one of the main reasons I've always hated IE/OE. I miss so many emails cuz I rarely start Outlook Express manually.

At least Netscape had it right, I never missed an email when I was using it.

To minimize Outlook 2002 to the system tray, start regedit and follow the steps below:

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/10.0/Outlook/Preferences

Right click and select New>DWORD Value

Where it says New Value #1 type MinToTray

Now double click on it and where it says Value Data type 1

Hope This Helps

Hope this helps: https://www.neowin.net/bboard/showthread.ph...ay&pagenumber=2

I use RBTray... haven't found anything that does the job as easily and simply, allied with Ziff Davis' TrayManager to tidy up all those icons on my win 2000 machine.
