Dual monitors from 2 VGA monitors to 2 DVI ports?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

my setup is:

Graphics: AMD Radeon XFX HD 7950

Montherboard: ASUS? M4A89TD PRO/USB3 : DDR3, USB 3.0, SATA 6.0Gb/s, CrossFireX

i'm having issues with getting my second monitor to work with my graphics card. I'm not getting any display at all throughout startup and while running.

both monitors are connected with a VGA to DVI (i've tested both monitors and both work in the first port)

i've had some trouble with driver installs which i believe it could be the issue. when installing AMD Catalyst i get a warning:

AMD APP SDK Runtime, Final Status: Fail

to be honest i'm not too sure if this has anything to do with it.

and also done a driver check which says my PCI drivers are out of date, again i'm unsure if this is the cause of the issue and i'm unable to find the correct download for these.

then someone suggested that it could just be that new graphics cards cannot support 2 VGA connections, which i find fairly strange.

any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

On most AMD Radeon cards there's usually a DVI port that has a digital and analog signal and a DVI port that only has a digital signal. The DVI-to-VGA cable will only work on the DVI port that has both. So you will need at least 1 monitor that has a DVI, an HMDI or a DisplayPort connection.

    • Tim Cook: "The US over time began to stop having as many vocational kinds of skills." What's the point of wasting time getting those skills if you can't get a job with them? Good Lord, maybe he and his cohort of CEO's who exported all these jobs to China should just shut the f**k up :D

Microsoft confirmed June 23, 2026, that its Fairwater campus in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is fully operational — and the engineering behind it makes the facility something fundamentally different from every data center that came before it. Where conventional cloud infrastructure racks up general-purpose servers and parcels out workloads to each one independently, Fairwater links hundreds of thousands of NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell GPUs into a single, coherent cluster using a two-story building design, 800-gigabit-per-second Ethernet fabric, and a proprietary networking protocol co-developed with OpenAI and NVIDIA. The result, according to Microsoft, is the closest thing to a purpose-built AI supercomputer that any company has ever placed in commercial operation. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319205/20260627/microsoft-opens-fairwater-wisconsin-ai-campus-runs-one-supercomputer-via-800g-ethernet.htm
